TRACK STORY:
This composition began as a bedtime story I used to tell my son, Andy, about a Dragon named Jasper. Every night the story was a different adventure, and as Andy grew up, the “Jasper” stories became a really precious part of our family tradition.
I had always wanted to compose a piece that could be a theme song for these stories about Jasper; but as I started to create this piece, it began to evolve when I started to recognize that the power and energy of this dragon is actually a dynamic power and energy that lives inside me. A power that lives inside all women, actually, and tends to be discounted -- even discouraged.
Besides being a tribute to the bedtime stories about Jasper the Dragon, “The Dragon Within” has also become a song about honoring the feminine power and strength that is available to us all.
This piece appears on my CD, “The Wisdom of My Shadow” as a solo piano composition, recorded with sound engineer, Paul Vastola. This new orchestration is the product of several months of working with sound engineer, Andy Mitran, by using the original solo piano recording and adding the epic cinematic instrumentation that I have always heard in my head. Now this piece has really come to life!!
