Apocalypse or Dream Come True?

Wow! How many times in the past few years have I wished that my world might slow down for a minute? Almost every day!  And now — here we are! I'm a little sad [...]
[...] to see that it has taken such a global catastrophe, but it seems that one “Freak-o-nomic” consequence of this worldwide Covid-19 pandemic is that I have finally found a moment to pause and write down a few thoughts.

Today is the first full day of Spring, but in the foothills of the Colorado Rocky Mountains, you would hardly know it. Snow began falling early this morning and is forecast to continue all through the night.

There seem to be many other things in the news today.  We’re deep in the 2020 Democratic Primaries — dear friends in Utah were shaken by a frightening earthquake — and although filling out US Census forms online was a simple task while living here in "Elysium", there are serious concerns about reaching out to people surviving in more complicated living situations.

I have personally been hard at work today trying to replace lost income. You see, musicians who perform before a live audience are experiencing a total lack of performance opportunities. In addition — ALL of the gigs have been cancelled for all the performers I have represented during my thirty plus years as a talent agent.

Multi-stream income has always been my fallback over the years, so I’ve maintained a small studio of piano students who come to my home. Come to my home — what could possibly cause that to stop?

So today, I’m rapidly learning how to provide remote learning opportunities for all my students! Just like you, we’re all figuring this out one day at a time.

It is a crazy thing to watch unfold. I am working on income streams to help with my music business and I am hoping that I will be able to fall back on those things... but I've been incredibly ill.

Not with Covid-19 and now my immune system is compromised. So I couldn't go out even I wanted to.

Trying to reinvent my new normal.

Wishing you success on your online teaching and I know you will be!

Love,

K

I’ve been pondering this question of our current situation being a blessing or a curse, and Ive decided that I’m really not yet informed enough to make that call. In this moment, I prefer to notice the many opportunities for my gratitude. I am marooned in our lovely home with my beautiful and talented wife. We are warm with enough food and many things to entertain ourselves. For these things - and many others - I am truly grateful.
